The 'Dancing with Lunasa' festival 2005 took place at Kinnitty Castle on 31st July 2005, the weekend closest to the ancient Lunasa harvest celebration. The ancient Celtic festival of Lughnasa celebrates art, music, dance and poetry.

Lunasa takes its name from the Irish god Lugh, one of the chief gods of the Tuatha De Danann. “Lughnasa” was one of their most important ancient Celtic festivals and went on for 15 days. The international artists who have celebrated at “Dancing with Lunasa” combine Folk, Traditional and Contemporary Irish Music and have rejoiced at our rich diverse cultural heritage. >>click here for more historic background on the event >>

The Castle was built on the site of an ancient monastery in 1209 and is set on 220 acres. The festival celebration unfolds in the land at the front of the Castle, surrounded by forest and woodlands. Kinnitty is at most a two hour drive from Dublin, Limerick and Galway just off the N7, twenty minutes from Tullamore in the County of Offaly.
